Bodum recalls 5.9 million French presses over burn risk

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced on October 29 that Bodum USA is recalling 5.9 million French presses with replaceable 8- or 12-cup glass carafes. A damaged or cracked carafe can break during use. Bodum identified 70 breakage reports, including 48 reports of burns.

What owners should do

The recall covers Bistro, Brazil, Caffettiera, Chambord, Crema, Java, Jesper and Kenya models with those carafes. The CPSC says to stop using metal utensils to stir coffee in them and contact Bodum for a plastic stirring spoon and warning label. Do not use a damaged or cracked carafe. The official notice lists photos and contact details.
